The PCB High Performance Center in Lahore hosted the PSL 2021 draft today where the six franchises made their picks for the upcoming edition of the Pakistan Super League season 6. Depending on their preferred team combinations, the franchise managements made some very interesting picks and some new exciting T20 players will be seen in action during the upcoming PSL 6.
The draft had a total of 18 rounds where the 16 rounds were for the regular picks to form 16-member squads for each side while 2 rounds were there for the supplementary picks. The franchises took advantage of every opportunity they had and came up with some solid squads that will be seen competing over the next couple of months. Let’s have a look at how the major rounds went for the franchises and who they drafted in their squad during each round.
Platinum Round Picks
A total of 6 players were picked in the platinum round with one each going to Islamabad United, Multan Sultans, Lahore Qalandars, and Peshawar Zalmi while the last two picks belonged to Quetta Gladiators.
Islamabad picked Hasan Ali as their platinum player who was released by Pehsawar Zalmi during the retention window. Multan Sultans drafted Chris Lynn who last played for Lahore Qalandars while the Qalandars went for Afghanistan’s leg-spin prodigy Rashid Khan.
Zalmi grabbed the protease David Miller as their platinum pick. Quetta had two platinum picks and they went for Chris Gayle and Tom Banton in this round.
Diamond Round Picks
There were 5 Diamond picks during the PSL 6 draft which featured 2 for Karachi Kings, 2 for Peshawar Zalmi, and 1 for Islamabad United.
Karachi Kings went for Mohammad Nabi and Dan Christian as their Diamond Picks while Peshawar picked Afghanistan’s Mujeeb-ur-Rehman and West Indies’ Sherfane Rutherford. The Englishman Lewis Gregory was drafted by Islamabad United.
Gold Round Picks
In the Gold Round, we saw franchises picking 5 players. One player each was picked by Lahore, Peshawar, Quetta, Karachi, and Islamabad United.
Qalandars retained Samit Patel in this round while Peshawar went for the all-rounder Amad Butt. Usman Shinwari was Quetta’s pick and Chadwick Walton went to Karachi Kings as they retained the wicket-keeper batsman. Islamabad United retained Phil Salt.
Supplementary Round Picks
In the Supplementary round, the franchises picked 11 players. Quetta, Peshawar, Islamabad, Lahore, and Multan Sultans used their two picks while Karachi picked one supplementary player.
Quetta went for Dale Steyn and Usman Khan in this round. Peshawar stocked Ravi Bopara and Mohammad Amir Khan. Islamabad United picked Chris Jordan and Akif Javed. Lahore Qalandars chose to go with Joe Denly and Ahmed Danyal. Multan Sultans drafted Imran Khan Sr. and Carlos Brathwaite as their supplementary picks. Karachi’s only pick in this round was Noor Ahmad.
